2021/2022 Funded Eni-MEDEA Master in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics Scholarships in Italy.


 

Launched in 1957 to educate professionals who would go on to join Eni, the MEDEA Master’s was the first high-level, post-graduate training course of its kind in Italy and today has become a reference point for the energy sector.

As has been the case since the course began, we are looking for young men and women with a passion for energy and the environment and the desire to build their own future. Eni offer a 10-month study program in a cutting-edge international environment in which students can acquire the very latest knowledge from university professors, managers and experts from Eni, while meeting fellow students from all over the world. An adventure and investment – in yourself and in a team.

The MEDEA Master is an MBA course aimed at graduates with degrees in technical, scientific and economic disciplines, both from Italy and internationally, and at those already working in the energy and environment sector wanting to gain a more in-depth understanding of these areas. The course is focused on the themes of energy and the environment and takes an international and interdisciplinary approach.

The academic staff includes an internal team and professors from leading Italian and international universities, along with experienced managers and experts from Eni. The teaching is made up of lectures, blended learning such as flipped classrooms, which combine online study and classes, case studies, learning by doing, project work, seminars and conferences, as well as onsite visits.

Practical information

Starting from the academic year 2020-2021 Master MEDEA is organized in collaboration with the University of Pavia, in order to provide students with a legally recognized diploma. The Master’s runs from September to June at Eni Corporate University in San Donato Milanese. The courses are delivered in English and require full-time attendance. They generally start in mid-September and end on 30 June. For non-Italian students, there will be an intensive Italian language course during the summer before the course starts. Successful graduates will be awarded the Master’s Degree in Management and Economics of Energy and the Environment (MEDEA). Admission requirements

Italian candidates must:

  • hold an Italian degree with a final grade of 105/110 (or 95/100) or above, obtained in economics or engineering, or equivalent academic qualification from an international institution
  • be younger than 28 on December 31 of the year in which the Master’s course begins
  • have excellent English language skills

Applications are accepted from Italian candidates who are expected to graduate in the July preceding the course start. 

Non-Italian candidates must: 

  • hold a degree from a recognized university, obtained in economics, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, statistics
  • be younger than 32 on December 31 of the year in which the Master’s course begins
  • have excellent knowledge of English

Scholarships

Every year, Eni offers a number of full scholarships that cover the cost of the MEDEA Master’s (worth €25,000) including teaching materials, the use of company canteens and a monthly cash allowance. When awarding the scholarships, the examining committee will assess the university qualifications of candidates, along with any other academic achievements and professional experience.

Academic or professional experience in the Oil & Gas sector will be given the appropriate consideration. Individuals selected independently by Eni’s international subsidiaries are also eligible.

2021 Mo Ibrahim Foundation Leadership Fellowship Programme (Fully Funded to work at the African Development Bank )


Established in 2006, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation aims to support good governance and great leadership in Africa. The Foundation works to:

  • Stimulate debate on good governance;
  • Provide criteria by which citizens and governments can measure progress;
  • Recognize achievement in African leadership and provide a practical way in which leaders can build positive legacies on the continent when they have left office;
  • Support aspiring leaders for the African continent.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation (the “Foundation”), is financing the Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship position in the African Development Bank (the “Bank”). The Fellow will perform the functions and duties of the position at the headquarters of the Bank in Abidjan, the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, or in any other location from which the Bank carries out its operations.

The Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship Programme is a selective Fellowship that prepares the next generation of outstanding African leaders by providing them with unique work opportunities at the most senior level of prominent African institutions or multilateral organizations, whose mandate is to improve the economic and social prospects of Africa. The Fellowship allows talented individuals to increase and enhance their professional capacity, with the intention of contributing to the governance and development of their countries thereby creating a pipeline of future African leaders. The Fellow will work with the Bank for this purpose, for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months, and the Foundation will finance the costs associated with the position on the following terms:

CONTRACT TERMS AND DURATION:

  1. The fellow will receive an annual stipend monthly paid by the Bank out of the funds provided by Foundation. The Fellow may be required to travel to different locations on instructions of the Bank. All expenses related to the Fellow’s official mission travel, including travel insurance but excluding travel and shipping costs relating to assumption of duty and repatriation, will be borne by the Bank.
  2. The Fellow will sign a contract with the Bank before the commencement of service.
  3. For the duration of his/her contract with the Bank, the Fellow will, for all operational purposes and purposes of conduct, be required to comply with the Staff Regulations and Rules of the Bank. Only the Bank and not the Foundation shall be entitled to direct and instruct the Fellow in his/her performance or conduct during the course of his/her assignment with the Bank.
  4. The Fellow is not a regular employee of the Bank, or is not granted a right to employment with the Bank. There is no obligation to hire the Fellow and there is no presumption of future employment at the Bank upon expiration of the twelve (12) month fellowship Term. The Fellow shall not be eligible for recruitment as a staff member of the Bank for a period of 1 (one) year from the date of termination of his/her Fellowship with the Bank or expiration of the 12-month Fellowship term (whichever is sooner).
  5. The Fellow shall not participate in the Bank’s child educational scheme and staff medical insurance and retirement plans.
  6. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation will ensure that the Fellow has his/her own medical insurance, child education and retirement plan arrangements.
  7. The travel and shipping costs for the assumption of duty and repatriation at the end of the appointment will be borne and paid out of the Funds provided by the Foundation.

Duties and responsibilities

The Ibrahim Leadership Fellow will take leadership guidance from the President, the Senior Vice President, the Chief of Staff and Director of Cabinet and/or a designated Representative. With this guidance, the Fellow will contribute to the design and implementation of strategic assignments that will increase and enhance their professional and leadership capacity, with the intention of contributing to the governance and development of their countries. The Fellow will also have the following responsibilities:

  1. Design, develop and help implement innovative approaches to various strategic issues of importance to the Bank’s mission and objectives, based on international best practice.
  2. Undertake research and analysis of existing and emerging strategy, program and policy areas relevant for the Bank, as required.
  3. Assist with the monitoring and analysis of the implementation of various Bank Group initiatives as well as the regular work program, and prepare briefs, memos and other documentation that convey in non-technical terms the likely impact;
  4. Participate in high-level discussions and contribute to the preparation of the President’s meetings and missions; and
  5. Carry out any other assigned duties by relevant senior staff in the President’s office.

Selection Criteria

The priority for the 2021 selection of the Mo Ibrahim Fellow is the Bank’s High 5 areas (lighting up and powering Africa; Feeding Africa; Industrializing Africa; Integrating Africa and Improving the quality of life for the people of Africa).

The key competencies are top-notch professional experience in the private sector and strong policy analytical skills at all levels and the ability to run models.

The Fellowship is for young professionals, mid-career or/and new executives.

The Fellow must:

  1. be national of an African country, residing anywhere in the world;
  2. not be an active, non-active, retired, or separated staff member of the Bank;
  3. not have close family relations with an active or non-active staff member, such as mother, father, sister and brother;
  4. Government officials, active military personnel and political party leaders are not eligible;
  5. age limit is forty (40) years for men and women and forty-five (45) years for women with children;
  6. have outstanding academic credentials backed by a minimum of a Master’s Degree from a recognized institution in banking, business, economics or other social sciences, finance, international development, or in any other discipline relevant to the Bank’s business;
  7. have relevant and demonstrable work experience, strong communication skills, demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work with others;
  8. have at least (sevenyears’ work experience relevant to the Bank’s activities;
  9. demonstrate proven leadership and consultative skills;
  10. have experience in strategic planning, project management and execution;
  11. have experience in formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures;
  12. demonstrate strong ability to analyze and interpret financial and other data;
  13. excellent written and oral presentation skills;
  14. demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of government and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
  15. demonstrate the ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects.

2021/2022 Fully Funded OWSD Ph.D. Fellowships

 



The Fellowship is offered to women scientists from science- and technology-lagging countries (STLCs)to undertake PhD research in the natural, engineering and information technology sciences at a host institute in another developing country in the Global South.

PURPOSE

The programme is administered with funds generously provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and is offered in partnership with host institutes throughout the developing world

The general purpose of the fellowship programme is to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of women leaders in science and technology, and to promote their effective participation in the scientific and technological development of their countries.

The specific aims of the fellowship programme are:

  • To improve access to educational and training opportunities in science and technology for young and talented women graduates from STLCs.
  • To increase the scientific productivity and creativity of women scientists in STLCs.
  • To empower a new generation of talented women to assume a leadership role in science and technology.
  • To encourage women scientists to contribute to the sustainable development of their home countries.
  • To enable women scientist from the South to collaborate and network on a regional and international level.

FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT

Candidates can choose between two study schemes:

  • full-time fellowship (maximum 4 years funding), where the research is undertaken entirely at a host institute in another developing country in the South.
  • sandwich fellowship, where the candidate must be a registered PhD student in her home country and undertakes part of her studies at a host institute in another developing country.
    The sandwich fellowship is awarded for a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 research visits at the host institute. The minimum duration of the first visit is 6 months. The total number of months spent at the host institute cannot exceed 20 months. The funding period cannot exceed 4 years.
    OWSD particularly encourages candidates to consider the sandwich option, which allows them to earn the PhD in their home country while accessing specialist researchers and equipment abroad, at the host institute.

The fellowship support is only provided while the student is on-site, at the host institute.

The OWSD PhD Fellowship is offered only to women candidates.

Eligible host institutes

  • Host institutes must be located in a developing country in the South (not the candidate’s home country).
  • A list of recommended institutes is available here.
  • Other institutes, not included in the link above, will also be considered if they demonstrate appropriate resources and expertise.
  • Candidates should identify a host institute outside their home country. They can identify a further two host institutes if desired.
  • Candidates who are already on-site in the host country will not usually be considered eligible.

The OWSD fellowship covers:

  • A monthly allowance to cover basic living expenses such as accommodation and meals while in the host country
  • A special allowance to attend international conferences during the period of the fellowship
  • A return ticket from the home country to the host institute for the agreed research period
  • Visa expenses
  • Annual medical insurance contribution
  • The opportunity to attend regional science communications workshops, on a competitive basis
  • Study fees (including tuition and registration fees) in agreement with the chosen host institute which is also expected to contribute

The OWSD fellowship does not cover:

  • Bench fees and consumables
  • Support for language training, either before or during the fellowship programme
  • Support for shipment of research samplesCosts for personal computer or software purchase

  • Additional return tickets to the home country for personal reasons
