The scholarships are fully funded, and international students from all countries can apply for a full-time degree program.

It is one of the scholarships offering the largest number of awards for international students. A nominal application must be paid during the application process; the application fee is non-refundable. IELTS or other English language proficiency tests are not mandatory. Applicants can apply from a wide range of fields as the Shanghai government scholarship offers almost all the academic fields and majors.

There are two types of scholarships offered, type A and type B.  Confronting the urgent challenge of climate change, Eisenhower Fellowships (EF) seeks outstanding applicants for its innovative Fall 2021 Africa Program.

Requirements:

• Ascendant midcareer leaders, primarily from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe are invited to propose transformative projects in their respective fields and collaborative solutions to the negative impacts of global warming across Sub-Saharan Africa. Exceptional leaders from other countries with a track record of working regionally also will be considered.
• Ideal candidates, ages 32 to 45, are dynamic doers, working in fields actively confronting the consequences of climate change, including agriculture, housing, public safety, environmental protection, finance, water quality, food security and energy, among others.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists, from abroad to study and conduct research in the United States. The Fulbright Foreign Student Program operates in more than 155 countries worldwide. Approximately 4,000 foreign students receive Fulbright scholarships each year.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Applicants should be affiliated with an academic or non-academic professional institution in Africa and committed to working in their home institutions upon completion of the designated program;
• Nominees must have at least the equivalent of four (4) years of university study and the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. Nominees that have three (3) years of tertiary study should have the equivalent of thirteen (13) years of primary and secondary school and their undergraduate degree should allow them to be eligible to pursue higher education in their home country. Please note that the final equivalency
decisions will be determined by each U.S. university and not all institutions will accept a three (3) year undergraduate degree.

Applicants should have a sufficient level of English proficiency to enable them to engage in full-time graduate-level study in the United States.

2021 Catto Scholarships at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.

 

The Centre of African Studies, University of Edinburgh is pleased to announce the availability of 2 full scholarships for suitable applicants to study for an MSc in Africa and International Development and subsequent PhD in African Studies

Successful applicants will start their studies in September 2021. These Scholarships were made possible through generous funding from the Stephen Gordon Catto Charitable Trust and will cover full fees as well as a monthly maintenance stipend throughout the one-year MSc and subsequent three years of PhD study. These scholarships have been designed as a combined package in order to enable those who may not feel they have sufficient research experience to embark on a PhD to get that grounding with an MSc. The MSc year helps build a bridge between undergraduate studies and the PhD. We hope the combined package of support encourages some who may not have thought a PhD was in reach to re-consider. A key goal of the scholarships is to diversify the scholars from the African continent who contribute original and important research to African Studies. 

To be eligible, applicants must: 

1. have received an excellent undergraduate degree (minimum of a high 2.1) in the social sciences from an accredited university in Africa (a Masters degree achieved with distinction will be an advantage).

2. not have previously received a degree from a university outside Africa

3. be a citizen of, and be normally domiciled in, an African country

4. demonstrate a commitment to studying for a PhD in African Studies

5. demonstrate leadership potential and intention to maximize the impact of their research.

6. have received an offer to study for the MSc in Africa and International Development and/or the PhD in African Studies at the University of Edinburgh. Preference will be given to those studying conflict resolution, elections, technology, peacebuilding and/or governance in African contexts, although the selection panel may consider other areas in the field of politics and international development.
