15-year-old JHS 3 talented artist whose dream of becoming a professional artist is about to die

Thess with Cina Soul

Theresa Fosu, a 15-year-old JHS 3 student at Prempeh College Basic School. Thess as she's affectionately called lived at Kwadaso- a suburb in Kumasi.

She is always seeing singing and one faithful day, she asked God what was her exact talent and that, God should let her know.

Thess prayed and fasted.  She got the answer in a dream and drew a photo of a relative, a day after. She realized she was exceptionally good at drawings with no help or apprentice from an artist. Theresa Fosu is not only good at drawings. She is equally good in beads making, plaiting of hairs, makeups, sewing of dresses via thread and needle without learning from anyone.

She has drawn several celebrities such as Nana Aba Anamoah, Kidi, Adina, Cina Soul, DJ Slim of Radio One, and others.

She intends to choose a Visual Arts Programme at the Senior High School level- either Wesley Girls' SHS - Kumasi or Yaa Asantewaa SHS.

The main challenge is her single mother, a trader with a lower level of education, and does not know more about creativity or visual arts.

"She doesn't like my talent, she tells me, I'm a female and there's no need to draw, I should do a program that will let me a get government job, thus been a nurse or teacher" - Theresa Fosu said.

Anytime, the mum sees her drawing, she discourages her to stop and that, she can't make it in life with drawings. Thess gets opportunities to draw for relatives, friends, and people, but she hides her works from her mum. Thess dream is to become a professional artist, a graphic designer and have her own company in the future to train and employs people.

Why is it that, most parents compel their children to read a particular program such as Law, medicine, Accounting or Engineering of which they have no interest in it.

A Ghanaian student with a Twitter handle @ElikemV dropped out of medical school- "Special props to my parents for understanding. Paid ridiculous money for private med school, and now that I’ve decided to quit, want to study outside. My dad didn’t even allow me to consider Ghanaian unis. My parents are just special, I swear" - he tweeted

I suggest everyone should read a book called: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho- A fable about following your dream.
